Anyone who did not fill in the population and housing census may face legal action, said National Statistic Office director general Michael Pace Ross.

He explained that the NSO was in the process of reconciling the questionnaires received and will soon be in a position to know who had not filled in the census that is carried out every 10 years to gain a better understanding of the population.

The NSO will be sending legal letters to those who did not fill in the census asking them to comply to the law, that obliges everyone to fill in the important information.

Those who did not comply could face legal action and could be fined €232 according to the Census Act.

He insisted that the NSO was not interested in the fines but was after collecting the data. The NSO has received 96 per cent of the 140,000 census copies sent to Maltese households.
