Ester Ledecka became the first person to win Olympic gold medals in skiing and snowboarding by winning the snowboard parallel giant slalom in Pyeongchang.

The 22-year-old Czech had stunned the sport's more established names by winning the alpine Super-G last Saturday, coming down late to beat defending champion Anna Veith by 0.01 seconds.

Ledecka, who had never finished higher than 19th place in a Super-G World Cup, was the first person to compete in both alpine and snowboard events at the Games, let alone the first winner.

She had competed on borrowed skis, and and refused to remove her ski goggles in the immediate aftermath, because she said she was so unprepared for victory she had not put on any make-up.

Ledecka went on to write her name into the history books by following up in her favourite event on Saturday, overcoming Germany's Selina Joerg by 0.46 seconds in their snowboard final.

Ledecka said: "It was actually quite tough to change myself into a snowboarder. I had one week to do it and until yesterday I didn't feel good with my riding.

"But today I found the snowboarder in me. I've been doing it since I was a little child and I love racing. I just feel good in my bubble."
