Sliema has lost a number of sites of historic and architectural importance that will be the focus of a public lecture today in aid of Villa Frere.

Architect Edward Said, who is carrying out research on Sliema’s architectural history, will talk about the lost legacy of some of the area’s historic landmarks. The bygone Edwardian terraced houses that graced Tower Road are only a part of the heritage lost to modern development that will be debated.

The public lecture is being organised by the Sliema local council, the Sliema Heritage Society and Friends of Villa Frere. Entrance is free but those attending are urged to make a donation to save the historic garden of Villa Frere which is also to be debated during the presentation.

The lecture will be held today at 6pm at the Imperial Hotel in Sliema.
