Paul Zammit, the coach of BOV Premier League leaders Valletta, will have to make another change in defence for Saturday’s important clash with Balzan after Juan Cruz Gill received a one-match ban yesterday.

Cruz Gill, banned for four yellow cards in the 0-0 draw against Birkirkara, will almost certainly be replaced by captain Jonathan Caruana who missed Sunday’s stalemate due to suspension.

Six other Premier League players were handed a one-match ban yesterday.

Floriana will be without captain Nicolas Chiesa, suspended for four bookings, and Italian striker Matteo Piciollo, who saw red in the 3-2 defeat against Pembroke Athleta, for their match against Mosta scheduled for Sunday.

Mosta have lost Nigerian midfielder Ice Cream Guobadia who received his fourth caution in the 1-0 victory over Tarxien Rainbows.

Midfielder Gustavo Villalobos, sanctioned for four yellow cards, will miss Pembroke’s fixture against Tarxien Rainbows on Saturday.

The Rainbows will be without defender Bruno who must serve a one-match ban following his dismissal in the FA Trophy defeat to Balzan on Tuesday.

Relegation strugglers St Andrew’s and Qormi must make do without Michael Johnson and Ryan Micallef respectively for their games against Naxxar Lions and Sliema Wanderers, both on Saturday.

Both Johnson and Micallef were sent off last weekend.

FA Trophy

Lydon Micallef has been ruled of Balzan’s FA Trophy semi-final after he was slapped with a one-match ban following his dismissal in his team’s 1-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows on Tuesday.

Micallef was dismissed by referee Mario Apap after receiving a second yellow card just after scoring his team’s winner at the Hibs Stadium.
