Part of the lay-by along the St Paul’s Bay bypass carriageway in the direction towards Burmarrad has been damaged, the Malta Transport Authority said.

It said that its emergency architect was alerted about the damage by the police at about 10.30 p.m. last night. The bypass in the direction towards Burmarrad was immediately closed off to vehicular traffic and re-opened by 2 a.m.

Construction works by third parties were being carried out over the past days adjacent to the stretch.

The Malta Transport Authority said it will be taking the necessary steps to ensure that the part of the road affected is reinstated to its former function.
