Lawyer Emmy Bezzina has taken the highly unusual step of listing his deceased parents and grandmother among the witnesses in a case filed against him over inheritance.

He included the "spirits" of his mother, father and grandmother on the list of witnesses to "preside over the proceedings so that the whole truth and nothing but the truth can come out as God wills".

His father passed away in January 2004, his mother last March and his grandmother in July 1976.

The proceedings before a tribunal on the division of inheritance began on July 24 last year between Dr Bezzina and his four brothers and one sister.

The case was meant to resume yesterday at noon but Dr Bezzina failed to show up as he was giving a press conference about a court case in which he is legal counsel.

In the 20-page reply to his siblings, Dr Bezzina named a whole host of witnesses including everyone from the Commissioner of Police to the directors and employees of Bank of Valletta, Lombard Bank and APS Bank and even representatives of the undertakers that handled his parents' funeral.
