Fourth year law students recently organised a conference entitled 'Child Poverty - do we really care?' at the University Common Room.

The guest speakers were Foundation for Human Resources Development CEO Joe Gerada, Dun Ang Seychell from the Dar Nazaret Foundation in Żejtun, and Anthony Agius Decelis, MP, while The Times journalist Kurt Sansone was the moderator.

The discussion was also attended by other distinguished guests who listened to the suggestions put forward by the students.

The event was organised as part of the Focus Week programme marking the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. This aims to raise awareness about poverty and social exclusion among key players such as governments and social partners, and among the public.

Under the slogan, 'Stop Poverty Now!', the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, aims to mobilise a number of partners in the fight against poverty as well as promote social integration and inclusion.
