Zurrieq 1
San Gwann 1

\n

A 90th-minute Godfrey Chetcuti goal denied San Gwann the three points even though they still continue to occupy the first position, two points ahead of Vittoriosa, who, however, have a game in hand.

Mid-table side Zurrieq created the first scoring chance when a Matthew Genuis free-kick was headed at goal by Jean Pierre Abdilla. But Saints' keeper George Attard effected a fine reflex save to stop Abdilla's effort.

Zurrieq's Jeffrey Farrugia then had to be alert to stop shots from Dorian Colombo and Mark Psaila. However, in the 29th minute Farrugia was beaten. A Psaila free-kick took a wicked deflection which deceived the Reds goalie.

Soon after the break, Zurrieq's Josef Spiteri shot weakly in Attard's hands as San Gwann went close to wrapping up the match but missed their chances. They paid dearly for this because Chetcuti drew level right on the stroke of time. San Gwann were stunned... their promotion hopes were somewhat jolted.

Zebbug Rangers 1
Luqa St Andrews 1

Following four successive defeats, lowly Luqa managed to stop the rot and obtained a deserved point. Play was rather monotonous during the first period with Zebbug going close early on through efforts from Albert Ciantar and David Micallef.

Four minutes after the restart, Gordon Mallia put Zebbug in the driving seat but midway through the half, Nathaniel Falzon made it 1-1 after tapping home from close in.

In the 78th minute, Zebbug were denied by Azzopardi, off a Mallia free-kick, and in the closing stages Luqa created two good chances through Falzon and Penza.

Attard 0
Dingli Swallows 1

A goal scored by Darren Attard proved decisive for Dingli Swallows who chalked up their fourth victory of the season at the expense of Attard, now practically out of the promotion race.

Dingli, on their part, have now opened fresh hopes of maintaining their Second Division status next season. They started the match on defence as Attard went all out looking for an early goal. However, Dingli goalkeeper Mifsud was in fine form to save his fort.

After just 45 seconds from the restart Attard scored what proved to be the winning goal. He shot home from an Anthony Brignone cross.

Mellieha 1
St Andrews 0

These were three precious points for relegation-troubled Mellieha. St Andrews' position is not clear as well as the fight to avoid the drop is set to intensify in the coming weeks.

The Saints attacked for long stretches but were erratic in their conclusions. Mellieha had a superb start. On 13 minutes, they broke the deadlock thanks to a Wayne Borg St John goal.

From then onwards St Andrews assumed the initiative. In the 34th minute an Alex Busuttil corner was saved with difficulty by Buttigieg and in the 40th minute a header by David Busuttil just missed the target.

Goalmouth actions were rare in the second half. But, in the 79th minute the Saints hit the upright after another excellent Alex Busuttil drive and four minutes from time the same player went close with another calibrated free-kick which finished inches wide.

Third Division

Sirens 0
Zejtun Corinthians 1

A superb goal, scored by veteran Marco Gerada, paved the way for this merited victory for Zejtun which puts them on top of the standings.

Sirens suffered a severe setback late in the match when their defender, Alex Debono, was sent off.

Zejtun dictated the run of play during the first period but it was Sirens who went close first when Elton Caruana almost committed an own-goal from a Reuben Bonett cross.

Eight minutes before the break, Sirens had the best chance of the half but Fardell was there to save on Stefan Micallef.

Chances fell at both ends after the restart but with four minutes to go Gerada hit home the all-important winner to bolster his team's promotion chances.

Sta Lucija 1
Ta' Xbiex 0

Sta Lucija scored a narrow victory over bottom-placed Ta' Xbiex who are still without a point after 10 outings.

The Saints dictated the run of play but had to wait until the 57th minute to pierce the opponents' defence. The goal came from a direct free-kick, ably taken by Kenneth Catania.

Referee: Frans Formosa.

Melita 1
Siggiewi 0

Melita are back in the promotion hunt after the setback against Fgura United in the previous outing. They showed the better football on Sunday afternoon and after just seven minutes an Adriano Fenech free-kick was saved by Vella.

John Paul Naudi and Andrew Naudi could have opened the score but Siggiewi held tight and as the minutes ticked away the latter even started venturing forward.

Two minutes before the break, Melita were unlucky when a header by Andrew Naudi came off the woodwork but in the 56th minute they finally scored a deserved goal, Christian Glass putting the ball in the Siggiewi net following a good move by Fenech.

Referee: Juergen Spiteri.

Mgarr United 0
Pembroke Athleta 2

Kevin Vella hit a brace for Pembroke against next-from-bottom Mgarr United.

Mgarr had their goal scoring chances but were rather poor in their finishing. Vella put Pembroke ahead after just six minutes. He doubled his team's tally on the 36th-minute mark after being put through by Simon Buhagiar.

Pembroke's lead was never threatened after the break. Mgarr's reaction was too weak to upset Pembroke.

Referee: Roberta Ebejer Sant.
