Nader Salem Rizzo, the last Maltese citizen at Malta’s embassy in Tripoli, left Libya today and flew to Italy with a group of six other Maltese.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the embassy is now manned solely by locally engaged staff.

The group of Maltese were evacuated on an Italian aircraft and arrived at the Italian military base of Pratica di Mare.

The evacuation was arranged between the foreign ministries of Malta and Italy. Ministers Tonio Borg and Franco Frattini met this morning during a conference in Sarajevo to discuss the evolving situation in Libya.
