Everton teenager Dan Gosling scored a dramatic winner two minutes from the end of extra-time to settle the FA Cup fourth round replay against Liverpool at Goodison Park late yesterday.

Liverpool, who lost Steven Gerrard to injury after 15 minutes and saw Lucas Leiva sent off in the second half, looked to be surviving for a penalty shoot-out. But Gosling, 18, showed remarkable composure to beat Pepe Reina with a superb inswinger.

Leon Osman hit the post for Everton, who meet Aston Villa next.

Everton deserved victory for their more positive approach in a typically abrasive encounter.

Liverpool, who ran out of steam in extra time, are now left to concentrate on the Premier League and the Champions League. They were reduced to 10 men with 15 minutes left when Lucas collected a second booking following a cynical trip on Joloen Lescott.

John Carew scored on his first start for three months as Aston Villa reached the fifth round for only the second time in nine years by beating Doncaster 3-1.

Kris Commons' goal settled an enthralling replay between Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest and Derby.

Former Forest winger Commons sent Derby, who were 0-2 down, through to a last-16 tie at home to Manchester United later this month with a deflected second-half effort in a sensational 3-2 victory.
