The last two-year group of student teachers to attend a residential course at St Michael’s College of Education, Ta’ Giorni have just marked the 40th anniversary since the start of their course in 1970.

The 65 former student teachers marked the event at the Maritim Antonin Hotel in Mellieħa with thanksgiving Mass. The congregation included President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici who was one of the Ministers of Education under whom the group worked and from whom they had received their teacher’s warrant. Also present, was Bro. Emanuel, one of the last remaining Brother/lecturers serving during the 1970-72 college terms.

In an impromptu speech, Dr Mifsud Bonnici expressed his appreciation of the teaching profession in general and the unity of the group in particular. He stressed how the teaching profession in Malta contributed a great deal to what the country achieved and to the status reached today.
