Mater Dei Hospital has taken delivery of a laser machine worth €60,000 on loan until the tendering process to repair the one owned by the hospital is completed.

The machine, used to remove birthmarks and veins,has been out of use for the past year, Charles Grixti, consultant to the Health Ministry, said.

Noel Delia, a representative of Syneron and Candela, said the company was proud to loan the machine to the health authorities.

The laser is used for medical and beauty treatments and could help treat large birthmarks, known as port wine stains, he said.
