L'As de Seuilly was the winning trotter in yesterday's main race, reserved for Premier class, at the Marsa Racetrack.

This race, on a short 1,640 metres distance, formed part of the 15th meeting of the season which was made up of ten events in all. The programme also included a flat race on 1,250 metres.

Nine trotters lined up in the Premier race. Lord de L'Aron (T. Tanti) was the fastest horse for most of the distance but in the final straight this trotter was overtaken by Julian Farrugia's L'As de Seuilly which went on to chalk up its first win at Marsa at an average time of 1:46.6 per kilometre.

Alf Eme (N. Baldacchino) was second ahead of Madis Boy (C. Camilleri) and Lajos Useful (A. Bartolo).

In the flat race, four-year-old Irish mount, Mean Mr Mustard (D. Zammit), led all the way to the finish, a length ahead of Kharsak (O. Briffa). Etoile Du Pic (M. Sultana) was third.

For Mean Mr Mustard, this was its second success in a row.

In a Gold class race, Swedish Gigo Lloyd (C. Camilleri) increased its speed in the final metres to register a second win of the season ahead of Count of Life (M. Ellul), Agobra Bingo (W. Spiteri) and Incisa Real (M. Grech).

Gigo Lloyd clocked a remarkable average of 1:14.5 per kilometre.

The programme at Marsa yesterday also included two Silver class races over a distance of a mile.

In the first race, French Nuthan D'Emi (C. Debono) produced a strong surge in the straight for home for its first win in Malta.

French debutant, Notre Max (J. Farrugia), also had his first victory at the Marsa Racetrack when it topped the second Silver class race of the day.

The next meeting at Marsa will be held on Sunday, with the first race scheduled for 2 p.m.
