A large, temporary tent-like structure has been built at Cirkewwa to provide shelter and basic facilities for passengers waiting for the Gozo ferry.

The Infrastructure Ministry said the structure will be used until a new passenger terminal is inaugurated in two years’ time.

The 450 square metre structure was set up by Casapinta Design Group after a call for tenders.

It will include sanitary facilities, a customer care office and cafeteria. No electricity supply has been installed yet because of industrial action at Enemalta.

The ministry said work has started on the building of the foundations of the terminal building, which will be a €12 million project partly funded by the EU.

All permits have been issued by Mepa.

A new bus terminus is also being built.
