A 1,490 sq metre plot on the Victoria Lines at Dwejra (Malta) has been transferred by the government to Attard Scout Group.

The agreement was signed this morning by Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, who said the government welcomed the opportunity to help organisations such as the scouts, which contributed to society through the character formation of their members.

The land, which will be used for scout activities, has a commercial value of €920 annually but was transferred to the scouts at a subsidised rate of €230 annually.

Present for the ceremony were parliamentary assistants Charlo Bonnici and David Agius. Mr Bonnici spoke of the work involved in relocating the Group from a premises in Dingli which will now be converted into a Youth Hostel by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth to the premises just handed over to the Group. He expressed his certainty that the Attard Group will not only be using the piece of land for their activities but will also restore and maintain the whole area which unfortunately has been in a derelict state for quite some time.
