At an altitude of 1,100 meters, the La Clusaz ski resort in the French Alps is normally bustling with skiers this time of year.

But with only 40 centimeters of snow this winter... far fewer skiers are hitting the slopes.

Patches of green stick out here where only a quarter of the resort's 86 slopes are open

And with Christmas nearly here, the warm weather is cutting into business.

Ski shop owner Cyril Lassailly believes he could lose 30 to 40 percent of his turnover.

"We make most of our business during Christmas and the four weeks of February holidays. So if these two weeks are not happening or aren't good, it can quickly become a problem."

A problem that could take more than just a white Christmas to solve in this ski town.
