Views of Marsaxlokk are often used as "advertising postcards", to attract tourists to Malta, in almost all guide books and travel brochures and many magazines. But the photographs carefully avoid showing the power plant on one side and the sticking-out cranes on the other side of this unique natural harbour.

Construction works hurt the eyes of the residents as well as of the tourists. You should hear the comments on the bus on approaching the village! No effort has been made to camouflage those constructions with trees or to make them interesting, if not even appealing, with murals as has been done abroad.

When the power plant is extended, and the cliffs are damaged and the people's lungs are further damaged by an incinerator, will an effort be made to render this southern area of the country, once a gem of the island now a place engulfed by chimneys, tanks, fish farms, cranes, cargo ships anchored at the entrance of the bay, coming and going all day long, no more of an eye sore?

This would be a little consolation for the lack of concern about preserving the beauty of the southern part of the country and the health of its inhabitants; lack of concern clearly shown by such a concentration of pollution carriers.
