The Labour Party said today that a former MIA employee who was unjustly passed over for promotion should not suffer the double injustice of not being given compensation despite his case being confirmed.

Party deputy leader Anglu Farrugia in a statement noted that the Tribunal for the Investigation of Injustice had upheld the case of a worker who had claimed he was passed over for promotion because he was a Labour and GWU delegate.

But the company refused to compensate him as ordered by the tribunal, arguing that it had been privatised since the case happened.

A court last week confirmed the company's position and said a remedy should be given by the government.

Dr Farrugia said he hoped the government would not be miserly in cases such as this, more so when government ministers had given themselves a second pay.

Unless justice was administered, a new Labour government would take it upon itself to remedy matters once it took office, Dr Farrugia said.
