Labour environment spokesman Roderick Galdes has urged the public to help make the separate waste collection scheme a success.

Under the scheme, launched earlier this week, separated waste – metal paper and plastic – is collected door to door on Mondays in Gozo and Tuesdays in Malta.

Mr Galdes welcomed the fact that the Resources Ministry and the Association of Local Councils had reached agreement for the early introduction of the scheme - noting that the majority in the association is composed of Labour councillors.

He augured that the government would be able to keep up the momentum of the scheme and also implement the recommendations of the national waste management strategy.
