The Labour Party has called on the Auditor General to investigate whether financial procedures were followed in the direct orders for security services at Mater Dei Hospital.

If procedures were not followed, the AG should see whether the direct orders were justified for the sake of efficiency or value for money, Public Accounts Committee chairman Charles Mangion and MPs Helena Dalli and Chris Agius said in a letter.

The MPs asked for the AG's recommendations to ensure that public funds were used efficiently and in the interest of taxpayers and Mater Dei employees.

The Labour officials asked the AG to carry out his investigation in the shortest time possible for his report to be debated in the PAC and eventually tabled in Parliament.
