Labour MP Marlene Farrugia this morning called on the government to change direction and ensure clean governance.

In a post on Facebook reacting to the news that an inspector was given a €60,000 job with Enemalta after he was boarded out from the police force for health reasons within four days of having made the request, Dr Farrugia said “this is not the Labour government we worked for”.

Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi has told the chairman of Enemalta to terminate the former police inspector’s engagement.

Dr Farrugia wrote that the government had to change direction and repeat the successes being registered in the economy and tourism in quality governance.

“I remind the Prime Minister that the people are behind him. He does not have to compromise with groups or individuals.

“The people’s common interest should be placed first and foremost at all times and in every decision,” she said.

Dr Farrugia asked how could the people have confidence in the government when they saw such things taking place?

“Clean governance has to start from the very top...

“Little did I know when I worked hard to elect Labour to government, to the detriment of my children that in less than three years I would have to go out to protest to protect the environment, while trying to understand how all these scandals are cropping up, the result of which is that the many are being made to suffer for the benefit of the few, exactly the same as used to happen up to three years ago.

“While some people are benefitting on the people’s back, others are suffering trying to make do with a €500 monthly pension.

“Some people get boarded out in four days while the cases of others take years to be heard.”

While a €60,000 job was being found for some with Enemalta, a company that was still in debt in spite of a third of it having been sold, others were in precarious employment of €600 a month, she said.
