Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat and Chinese Vice President, Xi Jinping yesterday discussed the state of relations between the two countries and prospects for their improvement.

The Labour Party said the meeting in Beijing was proof of the respect the Chinese authorities had for the party and the Maltese.

The meeting was the second to take place between Dr Muscat and Mr Xi, following an encounter in Malta last year. Dr Muscat said Malta had a lot to offer to Chinese investors.

Mr Xi said he saw potential for further collaboration between the two countries, mentioning that former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff was the individual who had opened the path for relations between the two countries in the 1970s.

Dr Muscat was accompanied by George Vella and Alex Sciberras Trigona.
