The Labour Party this morning called on Opposition leader Simon Busuttil to explain donations which it said oil trader George Farrugia made to the Nationalist Party.

It said Dr Busuttil could not continue to evade comment and argue that responsibility was shouldered through the general election. The people had a right to know what had happened.

Mr Farrugia yesterday told the Public Accounts Committee that he had made a €2,000 donation to the electoral campaign of then minister Austin Gatt in 2008.

Last week he claimed that his company donated a car to the PL, but the party denied the claim. Mr farrugia said yesterday it was unclear if the car was handed over as barter for advertising.
