The Labour Party has filed a complaint against the public broadcaster for failing to represent the party’s viewpoint on yesterday morning’s broadcast of TVAM.
The move comes a day after Nationalist MP Clyde Puli filed a similar complaint against TVAM for inviting a Labour journalist for an end-of-year review programme without inviting a PN journalist for balance.
The PL said yesterday that PBS had reacted to the PN’s protest by creating an “unreasonable balance”, presenting a programme without the views of the party or the government, and called for remedial action.
The party also noted that Monday’s programme had included a former PN official alongside the PL journalist.
“PBS is today more impartial than it has ever been, with current events programmes run by independent personnel,” the PL said, accusing the PN of attempting to put undue pressure on the PBS newsroom.
In a statement later in the day, the Nationalist Party described the complaint as “shameless” and insisted yesterday’s programme was intended to redress the imbalance of the previous day’s broadcast.
