The Labour Party (PL) yesterday approved candidates who are contesting the elections to represent it in the European Parliament.

The local elections will take place on June 6.

The dozen PL candidates are Claudette Abela Baldacchino, John Attard-Montalto, Glenn Bedingfield, Steve Borg, Maria Camilleri, Joseph Cuschieri, Sharon Ellul Bonici, Louis Grech, Kirill Micallef Stafrace, Marlene Mizzi, Edward Scicluna and Christian Zammit.

This was the first time that the PL executive had the task of approving the candidates. This follows the updating of the party's statute.

In 2004, the choice of the candidates was made through a secret ballot during an extraordinary general conference.
