The No Movement has condemned a comment by Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando when he labelled as  'spiritual terrorists' some of those who did not agree with his divorce proposals.

"Apart from being in bad taste, such labels are a clear reflection of the complete lack of tolerance which Pullicino Orlando has for any differing views," the movement said.

It said this was, yet again, another bullying tactic solely intended to intimidate and discourage those who had a different opinion than that of the promoter of the no-fault divorce.

The movement said it believed that the labelling of those opposing divorce as "terrorists" was a case of bad timing since a few days before going to the polls people expected to listen to facts, sound arguments and informed positions.

"Conversely Pullicino Orlando opted to resort to very disrespectful language which is intended only to spark unnecessary resentment between those involved in the respective movements.

"Moviment Zwieg Bla Divorzju feels that this extremist approach is not appropriate in a democratic society, wherein everyone has the right to express his or her views without fear of retribution or denigration.

"Furthermore, members of Parliament are looked upon to serve as beacons of proper conduct and as promoters of freedom of expression and tolerance for differing views."

The movement said that notwithstanding being branded as "terrorists", it underlined its respect for those with a different opinion and hoped that in the last hours of the campaign, dignity and maturity would prevail in the interest of the debate.

This would set a good example on how divergent views could co-exist without the fear of 'terrorised' labels.
