La Petite Auberge de France, at the University of Malta, has been refurbished.

La Petite Auberge de France, within the Old Humanities Building, was established in 1995 with the support of the French Embassy.

Refurbishment works were concluded during the summer recess following an agreement between the University and the French Embassy.

The works primarily consisted of the installation of parquet flooring, gypsum and decoration works, a suspended ceiling and new electrical installation with light fittings. All the furniture was changed and is now new, including also an LCD screen and whiteboard to ensure an appropriate learning environment.

La Petite Auberge de France is an information, documentation and training centre, as well as a meeting place for people interested in the French language and culture, be they specialists or non-specialists of French language.

It is open to all students, lecturers and staff of the University, irrespective of their attached centre, department or faculty, academic specialisation or level, including those specialising in French, at the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Education. It offers the use of a collection of books, magazines and DVDs, which may either be consulted on site or borrowed.

La Petite Auberge de France is also used to provide French language courses to students and also information on the French language, culture, civilisation, history and current affairs; the Francophone space and its achievements and projects worldwide, as well as higher studies, academic exchanges, scholarships and research in France.

The University and the French Embassy may also use La Petite Auberge to organise cultural or artistic activities, such as exhibitions and shows, as it is well-equipped to provide a venue for these. Its official opening hours are the same as those of the University.
During the inauguration of the refurbished building, university rector Juanito Camilleri and French ambassador Daniel Rondeau signed an agreement renewing the existing ties of cooperation, the common mission of promoting knowledge and exchanges through training and academic programmes, and the willingness to promote French language and culture.
