The Malta Taekwondo Federation held a national Kyorugi competition at St Martin's College, Swatar, on Sunday.

Local clubs fielded their best athletes for this event with an encouraging turn-out registered in various weight and level categories.

At the end of competition, federation president Stephen Formosa presented trophies and certificates to the winners and congratulated all participants for the high level and spirit of fair play displayed.

In his address, Formosa thanked all those who gave their support to the MTF to make the Kyorugi competition a success.

He also mentioned the achievement of Christopher Vella who won a gold medal in the Sardinia Taekwondo Championships earlier this month.

Formosa said that Maltese taekwondo athletes will be taking part in the British Open in London in July.

Meanwhile, training equipment has been distributed to all affiliated clubs free of charge, an initiative that strengthens the bond between the federation and its members.

Josianne Formosa, Neville Desira, Brian Saliba, Stephen Formosa, Joseph Schembri and Joseph Azzopardi were also awarded Dan certificates, issued by the European Taekwondo Union as a gesture of solidarity.
