An embassy for Kuwait was inaugurated in Balzan by Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella.

During the inauguration, Dr Vella said “the intensification of bilateral contacts between our two countries has been greatly enhanced, notably in recent years, with 12 agreements signed since 2010”.

The establishment of Kuwait’s representation in Malta on May 5, 2011, followed by the establishment of Malta’s Embassy in Kuwait City on September 18, 2012, further testified to the growing level of friendly relations and cooperation.

Dr Vella said that despite the different realities, Malta and Kuwait were rather distant from a geographical point of view, they were in different times zones and had different circumstances but expressed and extended mutual solidarity when the occasion presented itself.

Malta acknowledged Kuwait’s need for political support in the wake of the Iraqi occupation and annexation of the Gulf State. This support was translated into tangible and active cooperation in recent years.

Even since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and Kuwait on October 3, 1972, both countries focused on further reinforcing bilateral relations.

Dr Vella said: “We now look forward to more high level talks, so that discussions may continue on how to reap maximum advantage from the amplification of relations between our two countries”.

Ambassador Faisal Sulaiman Ali Al-Musaileen thanked Dr Vella and expressed his wish that the relations between both countries continue to develop.
