The Imam responsible for plans for the building of a mosque near the Ground Zero site in New York has ignored a two-hour ultimatum given to him this evening by Terry Jones, the Florida Pastor who had threatened to burn Korans tomorrow, the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Jones had said late yesterday that he was calling off the burning of copies of the Koran and would have a meeting with

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf who, he claimed, had given a commitment to move the mosque away from Ground Zero. (see video)

The Imam's office denied the claims and also denied that the Imam had made arrangements to meet the pastor.

This evening the Pastor gave the Imam a two-hour ultimatum to confirm the meeting tomorrow. There was no reaction from New York, but Jones said afterward that he would still go to New York and he was hopeful that the meeting would be held.

He did not say whether he would restore his plan to burn the Koran if no meeting took place.

Jones is the Pastor of a small church of about 50 members.

His plans to burn copies of the Koran have caused global condemnation.
