A man was conditionally discharged for three years and fined €186.35 (Lm80) after he was found guilty of slightly injuring his brother when he punched him in the face with a knuckle-duster.

Johann Cachia, 25, from Mosta, was found guilty of injuring his brother Jason during an argument at their parents' house in Mosta on ­January 23, 2005.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Saviour Demicoli, heard that the incident took place when Jason Cachia was arguing with his father on the use of his car. Johann Cachia was mentioned during the argument and an argument between the brothers ensued.

Johann Cachia punched his brother with a knuckle-duster which, he said, he had in his pocket and had used when Jason Cachia got hold of a broom. Originally, Johann Cachia had been charged with seriously injuring his brother who needed a number of sutures to his face. However, a doctor told the court the injury was of a slight nature.

Magistrate Demicoli acquitted him of seriously injuring his brother but found him guilty of slightly injuries and conditionally discharged him for three years. He also fined him €186.35 (Lm80) for possessing the knuckle-buster, an illegal weapon.
