Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna today displayed its new 17th century Guard for the first time at the De Valette Square in Valletta.

This guard consists of a horse-mounted and foot soldier element depicting the soldiers of the Order of St John in the 17th century. FWA said the Guard will give daily displays when the Malta military heritage and history park is opened in Valletta.

The Guard will also be used to recreate the ronda or night guard patrol which was commonplace in walled towns in Malta during the time of the Order of St John.

The Guard is formed by 14 participants dressed in authentically created 17th century armour and equipped with period weaponry.
