With the same tradition and passion shown since the 11th century, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta continues its wine-making tradition, this time in their estates in Castello di Magione and in the hill slope vineyards of the Rocca Bernarda.

On September 8, a very important date in the history of the Order and that of Malta, over 30 workers started the process that will lead to the production of premium quality wines. This process is the continuation of an ancient vocation, which knows its beginning in 1567, just two years after the Great Siege of Malta. In fact, an inscription on the walls of the Rocca Bernarda - Vineis Avitis Rest Et Auctis - testifies that vines were already cultivated on the property at the time.

Earlier this month, Max Castagna, from Casa Vini Ltd, was invited to attend the special event and was given the privilege to be the first in the world to taste the freshly-produced Sauvignon of the 2008 vendemmia at the Rocca Bernarda estates in Friuli.

Casa Vini Ltd, an importer of high-quality and fine wines, has just been appointed representatives of the wines of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Mr Castagna said the Rocca Bernarda products are of a very high-quality, aimed to those who enjoy wine.

In line with the institutional aims of the Order, that is the provision of help and assistance to the weak and to those who are suffering, the proceeds of the wines of Rocca Bernarda and Castello di Magione go to support children in need.
