The Knights maintained their undefeated record and claimed yet another two victories on the final match day before winning the inaugural Malta Tag Rugby League competition played recently at Marsa.

Maltese Rugby League’s only entry in the Peter Bradley-organised competition, beat off stiff challenges from the ten Rugby Union teams, drawing once between a string of victories either side to commemorate a superb all-round display.

Despite being undefeated, the competition came down to the Knights’ final match against the title-chasing Stompers. The Knights overcame Stompers 10-6 after an earlier 9-5 rout of the Alligators II team.

Daniel Grima, the national Rugby League team captain, doubled as skipper of the Knights Tag Rugby side and ran out as the season’s top try scorer, crossing the line on 10 occasions.

The Knights’ female representation was fulfilled and complemented by a first-rate set of hands in Pamela Psaila.

The Knights included a selection of players trialing for the national Rugby League team and in meeting the competition regulations, also fielded the complement of women, veteran and youth players that are all a part of the country’s Rugby League family.

MRL officials said the competition was a good show of initiative and an ideal warm-up to the season ahead.

The Knights’ squad was made up of Daniel Grima, Graham Attard, Dorianne Borg, David Caruana, Tyson Freeman, Tanya Marmara, Christine Mercieca, Roy Newbould, Jurgen Pavanello, Daryl Psaila, Pamela Psaila, Dario Schembri and Matthew Von Brockdorff.
