Hundreds of schoolchildren and their parents enjoyed the morning at Ghadira beach this morning, attempting to fly a wide variety of kites in an environment event organised by Mellieha and Mosta primary schools.

The children wrote messages on the environment on their kites and were also invited to make a donation to the Puttinu Cares Foundation.

Particular attractions included colourful Chinese kites made available by the Chinese cultural centre.

The children prepared their kites after instruction by kite-maker Leli Psaila, who visited the schools. However getting them into the air was a problem since there was hardly any wind this morning.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and the Environment, Mario de Marco, and the Parliamentary Secretary for sport, Clyde Puli, met the children and spoke on the importance of caring for the environment and Malta's beaches.
