Kieran Gibbs rescued a point for injury-hit Arsenal in the north London derby against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.

Hammered by Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the Gunners seemed destined to end a difficult week on another low when Harry Kane gave Spurs a deserved first-half lead.

Gibbs was not the man Arsene Wenger would have hoped to be able to turn to as his team sought an equaliser but, with his squad depleted by injuries, he had little choice.

And the full-back proved Arsenal's unlikely saviour as he netted the equaliser in a 1-1 draw that keeps Wenger's side level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

City were held by Aston Villa, who claimed a vital point in their survival fight in Remi Garde's first game in charge.

The hosts ended a seven-game losing streak with a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

Villa remain bottom of the table and five points from safety but did at least stop their alarming slump after surviving a late scare when Fernando thumped the bar.

Jurgen Klopp suffered his first defeat as Liverpool manager as Scott Dann struck a late winner for Crystal Palace.

Yannick Bolasie put Palace ahead at Anfield in the 21st minute but Liverpool went into half-time level thanks to Philippe Coutinho.

However, it was the visitors who found the winner, Dann earning Palace a 2-1 victory with a header eight minutes from time.
