A young woman who was abducted and sexually abused by her captor for a week has been found and returned to her family police in northern Germany said yesterday.

Police said the 25-year-old woman was abducted near the city of Hamburg on June 20 by a man who forced her into his car. They said he then took her to a house where he detained and repeatedly raped her, before setting her free a week later.

After questioning the victim, police tracked down the house where she had been held. Officers there found her alleged captor dead.

Police said the 49-year-old man appeared to have killed himself, but declined to give any further details on the case.
