Yesterday’s card at the Marsa Racetrack consisted of no fewer than 11 events, 10 trotting on the rather long 2,640m distance of which the Premier Class race was the most important.

The afternoon programme also included a flat race, held over 1,250m for Class A runners.

In the Premier Class race, Magic de Assigny was first past the post but this horse was disqualified.

First place was awarded to Ker Pellois, driven by James Briffa. Mark De Chamant and Lover Boy Index were promoted to second and third places following the judges’ ruling at the end of the race.

The Gold Class event culminated in an exciting finish with some six trotters dashing closely together towards the finishing line, crossed first by L’An Deux Milles, under the charge of Chris-topher Cassar.

Intrus de Rioults was a close second ahead of Maestro D’Eloges, the third trotter home in the Gold race.

In the first Silver Class race of the day, Magnifique Sablais (Julian Farrugia) started to break away from the rest at the entrance to the final straight before going on to clinch victory followed by It’s My Way at the finishing line.

In the other Silver event, Kevin Sciberras’s Newman, in its third outing at the racetrack, just managed to pass the post first ahead of close runner-up Master Lupin.

Oliver Briffa’s Tarruji met no difficulty on its way to winning the flat race for Class A runners only.

Tarruji was six lengths ahead of runner-up Adorabile Med while Virginia Med was third.
