Anita Kilbride-Jones of St Paul's Bay is right in her statement (January 17) that God commanded us to keep the Sabbath holy.

His Son saw the need to bend that rule (Luke 13:10-17). The Jews criticised His healing on the Sabbath day. His reply was: "You hypocrites!

Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to give it water? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for 18 long years, be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath day?"

Therefore, don't you equate the dire need for business to maintain the island a necessity? Didn't Jesus also ask of His Father to "give us this day our daily bread"? Which clearly means our daily "necessities". And isn't the tourist business to Malta a daily necessity for survival?

I hope I am not too complicated for recent converts.
