This year's edition of Kayak for Charity will be following the route taken by St Paul when he left Malta for Rome.

The aim  is to raise funds for the Community Chest Fund.

The 600 nautical mile will be paddled by veteran kayakers Dorian Vassallo and Albert Gambina. The route will take them from St Paul’s Bay to Sampieri in Sicily, then North across the Straits of Messina and onwards along the Tyrrhenian coast to Rome.

They leave Malta in the last week of June, and will take around 30 days to complete. Vassallo and Gambina also intend to paddle up the River Tiber and complete the endeavour at Castel Sant’ Angelo, on the doorstep to the Vatican.

Kayak for Charity has been paddling for worthy causes since 2008.

Charities which have benefitted from Kayak for Charity include the Malta Cancer Foundation, Puttinu Cares, the Hospice Movement, and the Angie Bajada Foundation. To date, funds collected totaled approximately €55000. Their endeavours have been recognized by the Malta Canoe Federation, with awards by the Kunsill Malti għall-Isport (KMS) and the Malta Olympic Committee.
