In the opening match of the league, La Salle cruised to victory with a comfortable 15-goal cushion at the expense of a depleted Salesians team.

Nevertheless, Salesians had a good start as they kept La Salle's attack at bay for the opening 10 minutes. La Salle reacted quickly though to turn the tables on their opponents. At half-time they were leading 18-9.

In the second half, La Salle quickly added another six goals to their tally and kept dictating matters with some good flowing handball and great individual plays.

Dimitar Milev kept firing them in for La Salle. At the other end, Andrew Mifsud was having a great game in goal, denying Salesians' bid to make the score more respectable.

Player of the match: Andrew Mifsud (La Salle).

Aloysians Prominent 12
Kavallieri Kia Motors 19

Kavallieri defied the odds as they put Aloysians back in misery after the latter conceded their first defeat to La Salle a week before.

Both teams paraded new signings - Daniel Suleiman and Bertrand Somon for Kavallieri and Pierre Heindricks and Thomas Van Borrosac for Aloysians.

The game was off to a good start but it was only after 15 minutes that Kavallieri took a three-goal advantage.

Aloysians staged a bold rally and almost tied the match only for Kavallieri to score vital goals and take an 8-6 lead at the break.

Everyone expected a fierce reaction from the defending champions. This never materialised as Aloysians failed to level terms with Kavallieri who kept their composure and fully exploited their agility to convert almost every fast break they had.

Suleiman was inspirational for Mark Farrugia's team who started the season on a high.

Milos Stanisavljevic was rather unlucky... apart from the loss of his team, he was also injured midway through the match.

Player of the match: Daniel Suleiman (Kavallieri).
