Labour television presenter Karl Stagno-Navarra has been appointed a “consultant media coordinator” for Transport Malta.

Contacted about the engagement, a spokesman for Transport Malta confirmed that Mr Stagno-Navarro was appointed a consultant media coordinator last month. According to the watchdog spokesman, he receives a remuneration of “€1,500 each month”.

It remains unclear how Mr Stagno-Navarra was selected for the role, with questions to the watchdog on whether the presenter was recruited directly, as a person of trust or following a public call remaining unanswered by the time of writing.

The Sunday Times of Malta also asked for a copy of the contract between the government entity and Mr Stagno-Navarra, but this too was not provided. The spokesman also did not say whether Mr Stagno-Navarra was obliged to register his hours at the State entity.  Sources have insisted that the ONE TV presenter has yet to turn up for work at the agency.

Contacted about the matter, Mr Stagno-Navarra said that his role involved him “providing services related to media coordination” and therefore his services varied “according to the projects at hand and upcoming events”.

Once synonymous with the Nationalist Party television station, NET TV, Mr Stagno-Navarra made the switch to the Labour Party’s ONE TV channel in 2016, where he has since served as the presenter of a daily current affairs show aired during the early evening slot.

Before joining ONE TV Mr Stagno-Navarra had been given a job at the government’s investment promotion agency, Malta Enterprise.
