Nationalist MP Karl Gouder took his oath of office as a member of Parliament during this evening's sitting.

He is taking up the seat vacated by Prof. Albert Fenech in Parliament.

Mr Gouder promised to be loyal to the House and to the Speaker and to work in the most loyal manner.

He thanked his family, his partner, his constituents and the people of St Julian's, where he has been serving as mayor.

This is Mr Gouder's second term in Parliament, where he served between 2010 and 2013, when he was the youngest MP on the government benches.

Prof. Fenech, a cardiologist, stepped down as Nationalist MP a few days ago to take on new professional engagements overseas.

In a statement this evening, the Nationalist Party said Mr Gouder has been appointed spokesman for culture. His responsibilities include the arts, cultural heritage, the creativity sectors and the European Cultural Capital.
