The Labour Party said this afternoon that the funeral of Karl Chircop will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Paola's Christ the King parish church.

Party leader Joseph Muscat, the Labour parliamentary group and the administration will salute the coffin outside the MLP headquarters at 9.15 a.m.

The funeral cortege to Christ the King Parish Church will start from Corradino Hill at 9.30 a.m.

The funeral Mass will will be led by Mgr Victor Grech, assisted by the parish priests of Paola, Sta Lucija, Gudja, Ghaxaq, Tarxien and Marsa, the localities from which Dr Chircop used to be elected.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by the MLP.

Earlier today, President Eddie Fenech Adami wrote to Karl Chircop's widow, Adriana, to express his condolences.

He said that Malta had lost a politician who was a genuine example of a gentleman.

“I will remember Karl for the smile he always had on his lips.”

The President expressed condolences on behalf of the people.

Dr Chircop, a Labour MP since 1996, died in a London hospital on Sunday.
