Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening laid flowers at the foot of Karin Grech’s monument in San Gwann, today being the 38th anniversary of her death.

Ms Grech, 15, died as she opened a gift-wrapped parcel addressed to her father and delivered to their home on December 28, 1977. Her father, Prof Edwin Grech had returned to Malta to work at St Luke's Hospital at the height of the doctors' strike.

Dr Muscat said such a ceremony was held annually to remember the past. But the Maltese were convinced that events such as Ms Grech’s and Raymond Caruana’s (shot in the Gudja PN club in December 1986) murders would never take place again.

Both murders have been ruled political by the courts.

Prof. Grech and members of the PL’s administration also took part in the ceremony.
