Lazio will travel to Turin on Sunday looking to claim another famous scalp when they take on Juventus, after this weekend's proposed Serie A strike was called off today.

The Romans, without the distraction of European football, have had a great season.

They won 3-0 over Inter Milan in the last round to remain second in the standings, three points behind AC Milan and three clear of Sunday's rivals.

"This game will show whether we can or cannot challenge AC Milan," said Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

"We will be playing a great side and so it will be very difficult for us."

Juve are unbeaten in 11 league games but have not been able to celebrate the success because of their failure to progress in the Europa League.

Milan visit in-form Bologna on Saturday.

Massimiliano Allegri's Milan will be bolstered by the return of top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was rested in Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Ajax in the Champions League.

Bologna, who remain unbeaten at the Stadio Renato Dall' Ara this season, go into Saturday's match on the back of two straight wins.

A draw in Turin between Lazio and Juventus would see Napoli leapfrog Juve in the standings, provided the Naples-based club win at Genoa this weekend.

Napoli are fourth, level on 27 points with Juve.

With Inter's match against Cesena scheduled for January 19 since the Nerazzurri are involved in the Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, Sampdoria, Palermo and Roma have a chance to overtake them in the table.

All four teams have taken 23 points from 15 games.

Samp visit Brescia, who hold the last position of safety, while Palermo take on Parma at La Favorita.

Roma, meanwhile, face rock-bottom Bari in the Eternal City.

Claudio Ranieri's team had a tough start to the season but have turned things around in Serie A and also reached the knockout round of the Champions League after a 1-1 draw at Cluj in midweek.

Fiorentina have not won on the road this season with just three points collected away from home all season.

They travel to the Stadio Friuli to face Udinese.

The Viola are one point behind Udinese in the standings.

Strugglers Lecce take on mid-table Chievo at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Lecce have lost their last four league games and are second-bottom in the standings.

Sardinian outfit Cagliari host Sicilians Catania.

Catania have mustered just three points of a possible 21 away from home this campaign.

The planned strike was avoided at the 11th hour after the players' union (AIC) and Lega Serie A reached an agreement this afternoon.

After months of negotiations, the two sides met today to define a new collective bargaining agreement - the old deal between the two parties having expired in June.

The new deal will be signed next week.

A statement from AIC read: "The Association of Italy's Footballers (AIC), take into account the good work done for the new text of the collective agreement, with the mediation of the president of the FIGC (Giancarlo) Abete.

"And, having listened to the representatives of the teams, it announces that it has cancelled the action of protest awaiting the definite signature and that the players of Serie A will go out on the pitch for the 16th round of games on December 11 and 12.

"The AIC thanks the players that have shown total participation, unity, and a high sense of responsibility to defend their professional dignity and the fundamental rights of all workers."
