Malta was among the participants of a United Nations conference on the rights of persons living with disability held last week.

The ninth session of the Conference of states parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana used her speaking time at the conference to outline Malta's progress in improving the quality of life of people living with disability.

Dr Caruana, whose portfolio includes the rights of persons living with disability, told conference attendees that Malta had pushed through several legislative amendments to that effect. She also noted that the government was in the process of developing a national strategy for people living with disability.

The strategy would serve as the government's five-year plan for the sector, she said.
