Jury members were this afternoon taken to visit the crime scene of a 2009 hold-up and the spot where the balaclava used was subsequently chucked out of the car.

Matthew Mizzi, 29, from Cospicua, is pleading not guilty to being an accomplice in the attempted murder carried out by Jonathan Coleiro, being in possession of a firearm, driving the car allegedly used in the armed robbery without a licence and filing a false police report.

Mr Coleiro had pleaded guilty to the attempted murder in 2012 and was jailed for 15 years. The owner of Seven Mobiles in Psaila Street, Birkirkara – Charles Zammit – was shot at in the arm as he gave chase in a bid to stop Mr Coleiro.

The bullet exited Mr Zammit and lodged itself in his side, where it still remains as doctors deemed it too dangerous to extract.

The trial continues on Monday.
