The trial by jury of a Libyan accused of murdering his former wife is approaching the end, as Mr Justice Antonio Mizzi yesterday addressed the jury before it starts its deliberations.

Addressing jurors, defence lawyer Martin Testaferrata Moroni Viani warned that the real aggressor of Margaret Mifsud was still on the run and his client had been “framed” because he was Libyan.

Had Mr El Gadi killed Dr Mifsud, he would have caught the first plane or boat out of the country, he argued.

The prosecution said DNA evidence clearly showed that the last person Dr Mifsud was in contact with before she was murdered was Mr El Gadi.
