Bernard Cassar Torreggiani, 11, and Brenda Galea, 13, have been selected by the Malta Tennis Federation to represent the country in the Tennis Europe Development Championships, currently underway in Bulgaria.

The Maltese youngsters are figuring in the tournament along with other junior players from 18 countries which include Serbia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Iceland and Georgia. Each country is represented by the leading players in the national rankings.

The 16 most promising players will then be invited to take part in the ITF/Tennis Europe U-14 Touring Teams on the continent this summer.

Players who won the Development Championships in the past include Cyprus's Marcos Baghdatis. He is among the top 20 players in the world at the moment.

The Maltese federation is planning to send top local junior players to take part in international tournaments in summer.

The MTF is assisted by the MOC, sponsors Gasan Mamo and the Malta Tourism Authority.
